2008 Scholarship Information

O. C. Taylor Elementary School PTA
Scholarship Program Standing Rules


The O. C. Taylor Elementary School (OCT) PTA Senior Scholarship shall be a cash award granted annually to one or more graduating seniors who attended OCT for a minimum of one full academic year. The scholarship is a monetary award in recognition of superior achievement in citizenship, leadership and academics for the purpose of encouraging the recipient to proceed on to higher education.

The OCT PTA Allison Horn Memorial Senior Scholarship shall be a cash award granted annually to a graduating senior who attended OCT for a minimum of one full academic year. The scholarship is a monetary award in recognition of superior achievement in character as well as achievement in leadership and citizenship for the purpose of encouraging the recipient to proceed on to higher education.

The Scholarship Program shall be the responsibility of a standing committee of the OCT PTA whose Chairperson is appointed by the OCT PTA President. The Chairperson shall solicit a minimum of four additional individuals, who are members of the OCT PTA, to be approved by the OCT PTA Executive Board. No member of this committee, including the Chairperson, may be a parent or guardian of a graduating senior eligible for these scholarships. The number and monetary value of scholarships awarded each year shall be determined by the committee.

Any contributions to this program shall be designated for the exclusive use of funding scholarship awards. Any funds remaining at the end of the year shall be carried over to the next year’s scholarship fund.

ELIGIBILITY
  • Applicant must be a graduating senior and must have attended OCT for a minimum of one full academic year.
  • Applicant must be of good character and high moral standards. Applicant must have exhibited good citizenship during their high school experience.
  • Applicant must be a senior graduating from either Grapevine High School or Colleyville Heritage High School.

SELECTION
Each application received for the Senior Scholarship shall be judged on the following merits:
  • Academic profile/education plan
  • High School organizations
  • Community service
  • Honors/awards
  • Personal Essay

Each application received for the Allison Horn Memorial Senior Scholarship shall be judged on the following merits:
  • High School organizations
  • Community service
  • Honors/awards
  • Personal Essay
  • Non-relative essay

The scholarship committee shall select the Senior Scholarship recipient(s) from graduating seniors enrolling in college or vocational school who have completed the application form and have submitted same to the OCT PTA by the designated due date.

The scholarship committee shall preview applications for the Allison Horn Memorial Senior Scholarship and forward all qualified applications to the Horn family for selection of the scholarship recipient.

The OCT PTA shall honor and present a Certificate of Award to the recipients during the May General PTA meeting. The scholarships shall be paid to the recipient’s University, College or School upon acceptance to the institution unless other arrangements are approved by the Scholarship Chairperson. The monetary award must be claimed within one year or the amount shall be forfeited and returned to the OCT PTA Senior Scholarship fund or Allison Horn Memorial Senior Scholarship fund.

It is the responsibility of all applicants and recipients to contact the OCT PTA regarding disbursement of funds or any other matters relating to the scholarship program. All contacts shall be made in writing.

The scholarship committee shall maintain the complete anonymity of all scholarship recipients until public announcements are made at the May General PTA meeting.
