PTA Programs

 

PTA GENERAL MEETINGS & PROGRAMS

Once a month the we present meetings that combine PTA business with other fun, informative and family-oriented events. These events keep parents, students and staff informed in an entertaining way and provide interaction with other O.C. Taylor families. Popular programs include: 50's Night, Spaghetti/Bingo night and the Science Fair.


FUNDRAISERS 
The PTA raises funds within the framework of National PTA policies and objectives in order to sponsor educational programs that enhance the curriculum at O.C. Taylor.

Fall Festival & Silent Auction
Children and adults enjoy a variety of fun-filled activities and games at booths run by volunteers from each classroom. The Silent Auction, held at the same time, is where families can bid on fabulous theme baskets sponsored by each homeroom. This event combined with wrapping paper sales (below) make up the majority of the PTA operating budget for the year.

Boosterthon
Each Spring the children get in shape & raise money for their school with this fun-filled healthy fundraiser.


ARTS IN EDUCATION

Reflections Contest

Reflections is an arts recognition and achievement program. All students are encouraged to create and submit original works of art in four areas: literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. We encourage participation from all students, parents and teachers.

Kindergarten Art Awareness
Kindergarten parent volunteers prepare and present this enrichment program to foster a beginning understanding of the arts.

Destination Imagination
DI is an extracurricular activity where children work together in teams to solve various problems creatively. Volunteers assist by coaching or co-coaching a team. Teams present their long-term problem solutions and demonstrate their spontaneous problem solving skills at a district tournament in early February. In the past, teams advanced to Regional and State competitions.


CLASSROOM / SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Tiger Publishing
Students write and illustrate original stories. Volunteers type, edit, assemble and bind the students’ books. Monthly book readings take place at Barnes & Noble Bookstore.

Assisting Teachers
Parents help with activities as requested by the teacher. Activities include reading, editing, arts and crafts, cutting, pasting, decorating hallways. In addition to regular classroom work, special areas include: Music, Art, Spanish and Science Lab.

Homeroom Parent
Each homeroom parent is responsible for assisting the teacher by organizing the holiday and Valentines parties and coordinating classroom involvement in Fall Festival.

Grade Level Coordinator
These volunteers are responsible for interfacing between grade level team leaders and homeroom parents to facilitate the flow of information. This is an appointed position, requiring good leadership skills.

Library
Assists with shelving books, making decorations and educational games, and helping students locate books.

Nurse/Clinic
Qualified individuals can assist with vision and hearing screenings, and help at the first aid station during Field Day in May.


SERVICES

Scholarships
The Senior Scholarship Committee serves to recognize former O.C. Taylor students who have shown superior achievement in citizenship, leadership and academics.


CLUBS

Art Workshops
Assist Art Teacher with ongoing Art Workshops for 1st-5th graders. The Art club will hold after-school workshops where volunteers will be needed to organize and assist.

Tiger Bank (Banking Club)
Volunteers interview, train and oversee all banking transactions made by the 5th grade students operating the bank. Volunteers will be responsible for verifying and balancing all transactions.

Chess Club
Chess promotes critical thinking, improves problem solving skills, promotes good sportsmanship, teaches concentration and self-discipline but most of all Chess is FUN!  Club members discuss and participate in games and practice drills.

Science/Ecology Club
Weekly club meetings are held to discuss and perform experiments in a variety of science-related fields.

Tiger Talkers Speech Club
The Speech Club provides children with opportunity to experience public speaking on a consistent basis. All activities are designed to teach speaking skills, listening, leadership and confidence building.

Environmental Science
This group is involved with enhancing the learning experience of students in the areas of math, science and the environment.


SPECIAL EVENTS

Field Day
PTA volunteers assist with this annual Physical Fitness event. We provide and staff concession stands and run ticket sales for refreshments.

Talent Show
3rd, 4th and 5th grade students showcase their individual and group talents in the format of a show. While our children highlight their skills, many volunteers work behind the scenes.

Youth Protection
The PTA plans and organizes Health and Safety week and the Bike Rodeo in collaboration with the Colleyville Police department.

Hospitality
This group creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere at PTA functions and teacher appreciation events, by greeting attendees, providing refreshments and decorating.

Teacher Appreciation Week
Each classroom teacher and staff member is honored this week to show appreciation for their dedication to our school and children. There are coordinators for each class.

Apple Tree
The Apple Tree is a teacher wish list of classroom items that parents can choose to purchase to fulfill a need. Each item is under $10 and benefits the students or school in some way.

Lost and Found
We help identify and distribute mislaid articles and deliver unclaimed articles to a worthy charity.

Paw Prints Phonebook 
Compile and publish the school phone directory.

Tiger Tales Newsletter
We publish a monthly newsletter to inform families of school and PTA news, activities, awards and recognition and provide a calendar of upcoming school, PTA, community and cultural events.

School Supply Packs
Volunteers are needed in April at School Supply Pac sale to assist with paperwork and again at actual distribution of Supply Packs at the end of May.

Special Services
Our liason coordinates between Grapevine/Colleyville School District and O.C.Taylor Elementary School any and all information that needs to be communicated concerning any of the special services our school district provides.

Spirit Shop
Twice each semester we offer school spirit based merchandise for sale at a minimum profit. Select items display the O.C. Taylor logo.

Sportswear
We offer great sportswear as an excellent way to promote school spirit. The 5th grade class has the opportunity to order a keepsake shirt with the entire 5th grade class roster printed on the back.
